Queens I Have Known

​​The series of prints entitled:  "Queens I Have Known"  addresses issues dealing with cross-dressing and the identification of gender-specific clothing in an historical context.  Each print contains a silhouette of a dress coupled with a man's name surrounded by smaller images of men throughout history wearing dresses.  These smaller illustrations depict men from different cultures and periods in history in which wearing skirts and dresses were normal masculine attire. This work addresses the current tolerance/ intolerance associated with drag and cross-dressing in contemporary American society. There are 6 different works in the series, each in an edition of three.  The print processes are linocut, collagraph, masks, Xerox gum print, and hand applied pigment.  They measure 3¹ x 6¹
